Joyce Vivian Pittard Cobb

Joyce Vivian Pittard Cobb entered the Church Eternal on May 1, 2016.

She was born July 21, 1936 as the oldest daughter of James Ambrose Pittard and Elsie Hux Pittard.

She was the Valedictorian of her High School Class at Aurelian Springs High School.

On July 30, 1954, she married Arnold Gene Cobb, Sr. of Halifax.

Vocationally, she worked as a retail clerk, teacher’s aide, Assistant Tax Collector and Assistant in the Register of Deeds Office of Halifax County.

She enjoyed the beach and history. She served her Lord, Jesus Christ through the United Methodist Church at Hawkins Chapel Church in every possible local church leadership area while playing piano and organ for decades. She was a past District President of the former Rocky Mount District United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and United Daughters of the Confederacy.

The most important part of her life was her family and this was especially evident at Christmas time. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, and a brother, James Donald Pittard.

She was the most wonderful mother and is survived by two sons: Rev. Dr. A. Gene Cobb, Jr., and wife Brenda of Sanford, NC; Steven Maddrey Cobb and wife Franki of Tarboro, NC; Laura Ellen Cobb Faulkner and husband Perry of Nashville, NC; a sister-in-law Mary Lee White Pittard; a brother, Douglas Wayne Pittard and wife Linda of Littleton, NC; a sister Jacqueline Marie Pittard Norman and husband George of Wilson, NC; four grandchildren John M. Cobb of Charleston SC, Stephanie Cobb of Tarboro NC, Brittany and Johnson Faulkner of Nashville, NC; nine nieces; six nephews and many friends.

A celebration of her life will be held at Hawkins Chapel United Methodist Church on Wednesday May 4 at 11:00 a.m. with interment in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the Hockaday Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids on Tuesday May 3 from 7:00 until 8:30 and at the family home during other times.

Memorial contributions may be made to Joyce Pittard Cobb Memorial Fund at Hawkins Chapel United Methodist Church, 6955 Highway 48, Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870.
